School of Law and Public Affairs

                                          The history of School of Law and Public Affairs can be traced back to the former Research Section of Marxism-Leninist of Nanjing Meteorological Institute in 1960. After that, Ministry of Social Sciences was established and developed into Department of Social Sciences. In 2001, Department of Social Sciences was adjusted to Department of Public Administration, Department of Economic Trade, and Department of Law. In 2005, Education Center for Ideological and Political Theory Course was established (renamed Marxism College in 2012 and independent establishment in 2014) and was affiliated to Department of Public Administration. In 2006, School of Public Administration was established on the basis of the former Department of Public Administration and Faculty of Law. In 2017, the former school of Public Administration was renamed School of Law and Public Affairs. At present, the school provides three majors (administration, law, and public service management) for students and professional degree education of MPA,Juris Master as well as the first-level discipline of the Doctoral Program of Science and Technology History. Through unremitting efforts, the school has achieved remarkable results in discipline construction, teaching staff construction, teaching and research, personnel training, and social services.

                                          The school has a high-quality faculty. At present, the school has a total of 66 faculty members and 56 full-time teachers, including 9 professors and 16 associate professors. The proportion of senior titles is 44.6%. All of young teachers have doctor’s degrees, and 21.6% teachers have overseas working experience. Some of

                                          teachers are academic leaders and young key teachers of ‘Qing LanProject’ and ‘333  talent Project’.

                                          The school have the Research Platform of Climate Change and Public Meteorological Services (supported by the central government), Institute of Climate Change and Public Policy (the key research base of philosophy and social science of universities in Jiangsu), Haze Monitoring, Early Warning and Prevention (Jiangsu Province's superior discipline cultivation project), Public Management Comprehensive Practice Education Center (the provincial experimental teaching and practice education center), Wei Shide Law Research Institute, Moot Court Laboratory, other scientific research platforms and teaching experimental bases.

                                          The school attaches great importance to scientific research. The level of scientific research is rapidly increasing. Since 2007, we have won more than 20 national-level projects such as the National Social Science Fund's major bidding projects, key projects and projects of the National Natural Science Foundation. And we have won more than 100 provincial and ministerial projects from Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund, China Meteorological Soft Science, etc. We have published more than 50 books and published more than 560 papers in SSCI, CSSCI and core publications, and more than 50 of these papers were reprinted and included in Xinhua Digest,Duplicated Materials by People's University, China Social Science Digest, etc. We also have received more than 120 awards like the National Award for Excellence in Educational Science Research, the Award for Outstanding Social Sciences in Jiangsu Province, the Award for ‘five-one project’ in the Construction of Spiritual Civilization in Jiangsu Province, and the 16th Anzijie International Trade Research Award, Excellent Achievements Award for Philosophical and Social Sciences Research in Colleges and Universities of Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Province higher Education Teaching achievements Award.

                                          The school has vigorously implemented the monitoring and reform of education and teaching quality, and has undertaken more than 50 educational reform projects at or above the university level. We also have published more than 50 papers on teaching research and teaching reform in core journals, and the teaching achievements have won special awards and first prizes. Many courses have been rated as provincial top-quality courses. Undergraduate dissertation of students have rewarded the first prize continuously for many years, and many young teachers won the first and second prizes of the young teacher teaching competition.

                                          Following the School Principle of ‘Respecting morality and law, Appreciating learning and practice’, we devote ourselves to educate students to be elites with international minds and practical skills. We attach great importance to the cultivation of students' comprehensive ability. After years of hard work, the students who are keen to think and practice have participated in many competitions and received remarkable outcomes, including National Challenge Cup Competition of College Student and won the first prize in 2013 and the special award in 2017. They also won Silver Award of Jiangsu Province University Students' Entrepreneurship Competition,  Global Chinese Youth Literature Award, National College English Contest and other series of awards. The ability of students is widely recognized by employers. Over 1200 students have graduated from the school since the establishment and 98% of them were employed in quality jobs. Graduates mainly engage in scientific research, management and consulting work in government, universities, research institutes, enterprises and institutions, etc.

                                          The school actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges, and establishes international cooperation platforms with famous universities such as Oxford University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Hawaii, University of Turin, and University of Reading. We are committed to organize and undertake international academic exchanges conferences. We also cooperate with the University of Detroit to launch the ‘2+2’ international cooperation project on economic law, hire foreign part-time professors to guide young teachers, and send key teachers to go abroad for further study. All of these measures enhance the school’s internationalizationand its international influence.

                                          The school always adheres to the core of talent cultivation and takes scientific research as the guide. It strives to build a world-renowned and influential school of management by further strengthening discipline construction and professional construction, gathering strength, making exploration and innovation, combining tradition, and developing characteristics.
